Introduction
Kamakura is one of the best day trips from Tokyo if you want to experience a different side of Japan without traveling too far. It has temples, shrines, traditional streets, local food, sea views, and a much calmer atmosphere than central Tokyo.
You can visit Kamakura as a half-day trip if you only want to see the main highlights, but it also works beautifully as a full-day escape if you want more time for temples, food, and coastal views. For a first visit, I would focus on Hasedera, Kotoku-in, and Komachi Street, then add extra stops like Goryo Shrine, Hokokuji Temple, or Shichirigahama Beach depending on your time, energy, and the weather.
