Kyoto 5-Day Itinerary
Five days in Kyoto, balancing iconic temples with quiet neighbourhoods, slow mornings and the kind of details that make the city stay with you.
Day 1 — Eastern Kyoto & Higashiyama
Start in the historic Higashiyama district, walking the preserved streets toward Kiyomizu-dera. The early hours are calmest, with soft light over the wooden terraces and fewer crowds along the slopes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka.
Day 2 — Arashiyama & Bamboo Grove
Head west to Arashiyama for the bamboo grove and the Tenryu-ji gardens. Cross the Togetsukyo bridge and spend the afternoon along the river, where the pace slows and the surrounding hills frame the town.
Day 3 — Fushimi Inari & Southern Kyoto
Climb through the thousands of vermilion torii gates at Fushimi Inari early in the morning. The full loop takes a couple of hours and rewards you with quiet shrines and views over the city the higher you go.
Day 4 — Gion & Traditional Kyoto
Spend the day in Gion, Kyoto's geisha district, with its tea houses and lantern-lit lanes. Visit Yasaka Shrine and end the evening along the Kamo River as the restaurants and bars come to life.
Day 5 — Golden Pavilion & Departure
Finish with Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, reflected in its surrounding pond. A calm, fitting close before heading onward, with time for one last café stop and a slow walk through the gardens.
